Three specialist surgeons across the practice

Each surgeon carries dual qualifications in Medicine and Dentistry plus Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England or the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. All three hold consultant posts at Auckland City and Middlemore Hospitals — meaning the same surgeons treating major public-sector trauma and reconstruction cases see you privately at Newmarket.

OMS Specialists is led by three Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons working side-by-side from one Newmarket clinic. Together they cover the full breadth of OMFS practice: TMJ surgery, corrective jaw surgery, dental and zygomatic implants, facial trauma reconstruction, skin cancer surgery, and obstructive sleep apnoea management.

Each surgeon brings distinct sub-specialty interests, so referrals can be matched to the surgeon best suited to the case. Where helpful, the team operates jointly on complex reconstructions — a degree of in-house collaboration most NZ private practices can't offer.

London-trained Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Ranked No.1 in the UK for selection into advanced specialist training. Consultant Surgeon at Auckland City and Middlemore Hospitals. Senior Lecturer (Hon.), University of Auckland. Key interests: TMJ arthroscopic and open surgery, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma reconstruction.

Mr Ryan Smit

BDS · MBChB · MRACDS(PDS) · FRACDS(OMS)

New Zealand-trained Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. University of Otago (Dentistry and Medicine). On-call surgeon at Auckland City, Middlemore and Starship Hospitals. Completed the University of Maryland TMJ Surgery mini-Residency (Arizona, 2023). Key interests: minimally invasive wisdom-tooth removal, TMJ arthroscopy, facial trauma reconstruction.

Mr Simon Roberts

MBBS · BDS · FRCS(OMFS)

UK-trained, dual-qualified Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Medical degree from the University of Bristol, dental qualification from King's College London. Consultant positions at Auckland City Hospital, Middlemore Hospital, and Greenlane Clinical Centre. Key interests: facial skin cancer surgery (including sentinel lymph node biopsy), cranio-facial trauma reconstruction, facial aesthetics.
